A top forensic scientist is to study the skull of Nazi monster Adolf Hitler - and says he may even discover it contains female DNA.

The study by leading criminologist Mark Benecke will be the first full forensic examination of the German dictator's remains since the Russian government put them on show 10 years ago.

The skull - complete with a bullet hole - is understood to have been recovered by invading Russian troops from Hitler's bunker on the fall of Berlin to Allied forces.

Hitler is said to have shot himself before aides burned his body in petrol and buried it in a shallow grave.

But historians have been dogged by rumours that the Fuhrer had really escaped and fled to South America while a stand-in was shot and incinerated.

"I expect the DNA to be unclear and polluted since no one wore gloves when examining Hitler's corpse after he shot himself.

"It is even possible I might find female DNA," said Benecke of Cologne, Germany.
