Shocked farmer Chen Lin has told how her herd of more than 50 pigs were fried by a 300,000 volt lightning bolt during a thunderstorm.

Chen - from Loucun, Guangdong province, southern China - had just fed the porkers in their sty when the thunderbolt shattered the roof.

"I saw them all shaking and screaming terribly but there was nothing I could do. I was only a few feet away from being electrocuted too," she said.

Accident experts believe that the lightning turned the metal frame of the sty live with the current then carried across a wet floor.
