This is the moment a woman's life hung literally in the balance as she tried to hurl herself from a nine-storey building in southern China.

Sheng Fi - from Zhanjiang, Guangdong province - was grappled back from the brink of a 100ft drop by rescuers after they'd brought her daughter to the rooftop to talk her down.

But what the rescuers didn't know was that just hours earlier Sheng had smothered and killed her four-year-old nephew during a bitter family row with his mother, her sister-in-law.

"She admits she'd thrown the boy's body off the same roof. She will still die now, but by a firing squad for murder," said a police spokesman.
