Boc says companies to benefit from less red tape

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc said today (Thurs) that a series of measures would be taken to cut red tape for companies.

Companies would be allowed to pay the bulk of their debts to the state before penalties, Boc said. He explained that companies had been obliged to pay penalties first and the bulk of their debt later, leading to new penalties.

A measure for a VAT compensation mechanism was under discussion, he said. For example, if the state has to reimburse a company for VAT, the VAT refund and any money the company owed to the state may cancel each other out.

Boc also said a working group would analyse the possibility of cutting the number of fiscal statements required from companies for payment of various taxes and fees. According to the prime minister, companies needed to file 24 such statements each month at present.
