The National Bank of Romania (BNR) is highly concerned with the evolution of the exchange rate, the governor's adviser Adrian Vasilescu admitted today (Tues) at a press conference in Bucharest, local press informs.
"BNR makes a forecast of the inflation and of the exchange rate that we do not make public because we do not intend to influence the market for a long time. These forecasts are locked under the key", Vasilescu said.
However, the adviser assured that in case of negative scenario in Greece or in another country, the central bank is ready to intervene with its entire arsenal to make sure the forex market does not destabilize.
Since April, the Romanian currency, the RON, depreciated against the Euro and the US dollar. Today the exchange rate announced by the central bank was of 4.4594 Ron/ 1 Euro, slightly higher than on Monday (plus 0.15).
