A Romanian man turned himself into a human torch in a protest against bureaucrats.
The 41-year-old, named by Italian police only as Stelian B, set fire to himself near the "Altare della Patria" monument in Rome after local authorities refused to give him documents he needed to get an invalidity benefits.
But he was saved when firemen who had been tipped off about his protest turned up just moments afterwards and put the flames out.
Doctors who treated Stelian for burns to his arms and legs have said his life is not in danger.
Now Stelian has vowed to take even more drastic action if he doesnít get the documents he wants.
He said: "I am invalid and nobody would hire me. I want equal rights. I am desperate. Next time I will jump from a tall building and kill myself."
