Finance minister to be fined for failure to pay bonuses

Romanian Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea will be fined 20 per cent of his salary per day starting on 9 July if he delays payment of wage bonuses to Romanian magistrates.

The Bucharest Court of Appeals issued that ruling yesterday (Thurs).

The court annulled a ministry regulation informing magistrates that their 50-per-cent pay bonus for neuro-psychological exhaustion had been suspended as of June.

Pogea declined to comment on the court’s decision.

The authorities’ decision to cancel the bonus for magistrates triggered nationwide protests last week.

Magistrates decided to halt trials in all courtrooms in the country for three hours each day and threatened to continue their protests indefinitely.
