Turkey to remove visa requirement for Romanians

Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Cristian Diaconescu said today (Thur) the Turkish government would soon lift the visa requirement for Romanians.

"We welcome Turkey's decision to remove visas for Romanian citizens who stay there for fewer than 90 days. Of course, Romania will consider taking steps to facilitate Turkish citizens' movement, especially that of businessmen," Diaconescu said during an official visit to Turkey.

"We agreed on a strategic partnership between Romania and Turkey that has an important economic component," Diaconescu said, adding that a strategic group had been created at the level of the foreign affairs ministries of the two countries that would focus on political-military and strategic problems and on bilateral cooperation on various issues.

Diaconescu began a three-day official visit to Turkey yesterday at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu.
