The Romanian newly-launched Dacia Duster has been named the most affordable SUV in the world by the World Records Academy.
The vehicle was presented this week at the Geneva motor show, which will run through 14 March.
The Duster is available in Romania at a price of 10,500 Euros (VAT included) for the 4x2 version and of 12,300 Euros (VAT included) for the 4x4 version.
The Dacia Duster is the cheapest SUV with seven seats on the market and will go on sale in Europe following the Geneva Motor Show, the World Records Aacdemy said.
"Renault-owned, Romanian budget marque Dacia has proved to be a big hit in Europe with its range of value-for-money family models", it added.
The Dacia Duster will be available in 4X2 and 4X4 models, with a 1.6 cylinder and 110 horsepower gasoline engine, as well as in models with two diesel engines - one with 1.5 cylinders and 85 horsepower and one with 1.5 cylinders and 105 horsepower.
The model will have low fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer. The diesel-powered cars will emit fewer than 140 grams of CO2 per kilogram in the 4X2 version and fewer than 150 grams of CO2 per kilometre in the 4X4 version.
Dacia Duster is the sixth model produced at the Mioveni plant in southern Romania. The model will be on sale, progressively, in Europe, Turkey, Africa and the Middle East starting at the end of March.
