London flight returns to airport after bomb threat

A flight from Timisoara to London (Luton) returned to Timisoara airport after a caller said there was a bomb on the plane.

The Wizz Air aircraft returned to Timisoara soon after taking off at 6:30am local time, and all passengers were evacuated.

Wizz Air Romania spokesman Daniel Amzar said: "The Wizz Air flight has returned to the airport. It has been confirmed that there was no bomb on the flight."

The passengers waited in the airport terminal for a new flight at noon.

Police received a call at 6:50am from airport guards saying a bomb threat had been made.

Timisoara police spokeswoman Marinela Apostolache said that a suspect had been identified and detained for investigation by organised-crime prosecutors (DIICOT). The call was made from Constanta in southeastern Romania, 766 kilometres from Timisoara.

A suspect, Anghelescu Viorel, 49, from Constanta, has been detained by DIICOT for investigation and been taken to Bucharest for questioning.
