Cocaine found in shipped party game

Romanian Times

A Romanian tried to smuggle almost one kilo of cocaine into Austria from Costa Rica hid in a party game, the Austrian Times has reported today.

Authorities in the Austrian capital announced today (Thurs) Romanian Gheorge I., 43, ordered his contacts to send the "Crazy Mat" dance simulator party game to Gülser T.’s address in Favoriten district.

The suspect – who applied for asylum after entering Austria illegally some months ago – got to know the Turkish woman, 43, only recently.

Viennese investigators supervised the parcel’s delivery after being informed by custom officials at Germany’s Frankfurt Airport. Their checks hinted that the game’s soft mat could contain cocaine.

Austrian authorities decided to allow the package to be delivered where it was supposed to go to track down the recipient.

Gülcer T. was released after interview sessions in which she convinced police about having been unaware the delivery included 810 grams of well-hidden cocaine. The woman said Gheorge I. – now in custody – forced her to accept the sending and hand it over later on.

Police, who have informed their colleagues in Costa Rica about the discovery, said the confiscated drugs had a street sale value of around 60,000 Euros.

Meanwhile, custom officials in Carinthia made one of the biggest hauls of smuggled cigarettes in Austria so far this year. Klagenfurt officials discovered 900 packets of illegal cigarettes in a glass wool-transporting van. Two Ukrainians were arrested.
