Carpatica bank president sentenced to prison for bribery

Romanian businessman Ilie Carubulea,  the president of Carpatica Bank and of Transportation company Atlassib has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison after he was found guilty of bribery giving by the High Court of Cassation and Justice today (Thurs), local press informs.

A few hours after the verdict has been announced, Carabulea stepped down from the Administration Board of Carpatica bank, according to a bank’s communiqué.

Carabulea was charged by the anti-corruption prosecutors of bribing Florin Apostu the former first prosecutor of Sibiu (West), previously sentenced to five year in prison for corruption. The businessman bribed the former prosecutor in order to drop the investigations at his local firms.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, in 2010 Carabulea’s firms were investigated in 196 files for tax evasion. Apostu ruled in favour of the businessman and changed the previous solutions given by his subordinates.
