Two severely injured in Petrila mine accident

Two miners were severely burnt earlier today (Mon) in a blast at Petrila mine, located in the mining region of Jiu Valley (Hunedoara County, West), Realitatea TV news channel informs.

The accident occurred when a boiler exploded around 12am. The two suffered serious burns and had been rushed by an emergency intervention squad (SMURD) helicopter at a hospital in Bucharest.

The two men were conducting prospecting activities in the mine, when they were hit by a wave of boiling water, a SMURD spokesperson said.

The two suffered very serious burns on 40 percent and 60 percent of the body surface, respectively, Anemona Doda spokesperson with the Emergency Intervention Unit in Hunedoara said.
