The feature film "Politist, adjectiv"/"Police, adjective" by Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu is Romania’s nominee for the 2010 Academy Awards.
National Center for Cinematography officials said today (Thurs) the film would be entered in the best-foreign-language film category.
The commission that chose the film comprised film critics Magda Mihailescu, Cristina Corciovescu, Dana Duma, Eugenia Voda, Mihai Chirilov, Dinu Tanase and Eugen Atanasiu, most of whom voted for Porumboiu’s film.
The film won the FIPRESCI and the Jury’s award in the Un Certain Regard category at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. "Police, adjective" also won the Transylvania Trophy at this year’s Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF).
In 2006, director Porumboiu won the Camera d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival for the feature film "A fost sau n-a fost?"/"East of Bucharest".
Oscar nominees will be announced on 2 February 2010.
Last year, Romania nominated Nae Caranfil’s "Restul e tacere"/"The Rest is Silence" for best-foreign-language film and in 2007 nominated Cristian Mungiu’s Palm d’Or winner "4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile"/"4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days".
The 82nd Academy Awards will take place on 7 March 2010 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
