Romanian TV presents a lot of violence

Romanian TV channel Pro TV is broadcasting the most violent local news, according to a report on violence on TV by Bucharest University and Unicef and presented by the National Audiovisual Council of Romania.

Pro TV, Antena 1, Antena 3 and OTV are the TV channels that present the most violence in Romania.

Pro TV's news at 5pm is 99 per cent violent local news, followed by Antena 1's news at 4pm (87 per cent) and Antena 1's news bulletin at 10:30pm (83 per cent).

The study said verbal violence ranked first among types of violence on TV, with 44 per cent, followed by physical violence, 33,6 per cent, and psychological violence, 8.4 per cent.

Pro TV broadcast the most-physical acts of violence - 57.4 per cent - especially in action movies, followed by OTV, with verbal violence in shows.

Among TV shows, "In gura presei" and "7 pacate" at Antena 3 are considered the most- violent entertainment shows, taking into account their length and violent verbal content.

The study of 348 hours of TV broadcasting was made during the week of 5 to 11 January.
