A x-ray of the left hand of Romanian Queen Elisabeta will be auctioned in Bucharest by Artmark auction house, Libertatea newspaper informs today (Tue).
Queen Elisabeta, born Elisabeth Pauline Ottilie Luise zu Wied, was the first Queen of Romania, the wife of King Carol and ruled between 1869 and 1914.
The Queen, also known as Carmen Sylva as a patron of the Arts, was a revolutionary mind and was the first to have a x-ray in Romania as to give trust in the new technology to the patients. The x-ray was taken in 1896 by dr Iona D. Ghica on the first Roentgen machine imported in the country. The x-ray was made at the technical School for Bridges and Roads in Bucharest. Romania was among the first countries to import the machine, invented by German professor Wilhelm Roentgen just a year before, in 1895.
The starting price at the auction is 250 Euros. The auction will take place on Thursday, 17 May at Artmark offices. Another important piece to be auctioned is a rare sculpture by Salvador Dali.
