Overnights in Vienna by Romanians down by 30 per cent in January

Vienna officials said today (Thurs) that overnights by Romanian visitors had declined by 30 per cent in January year on year.

Overnights by US visitors declined by seven per cent compared to the same month in 2009.

Overnights at Vienna hotels were up by nine per cent year on year to 604,000 in January, according to Austrian Times.

The most significant increase in overnights, 80 per cent year on year to 7,300, was recorded by visitors from Serbia.

Vienna tourism authorities said the increase had been linked to the EU’s decision to lift visa requirements for people from Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro last December.

January 2010 statistics also showed a 22 per cent increase of overnights by German visitors year on year.
