New Ice Hotel built

The works to build this year's Ice Hotel at an altitude of 2,000 metres at Lake Balea, have started this week, it was announced today (Tues).

The Ice Hotel, unique to Eastern Europe, will be built of 2,000 blocks of ice taken from Lake Balea. It is expected to be ready by Christmas, if the temperatures stay as low.

It is the seventh year when the ice hotel gets built, attracting hundreds of tourists.

For experiencing a unique adventure, the guests must wear warm clothes, caps, boots and wool socks, and sleep in sleeping bags.

Those less courageous may try the accommodation at the Ice Hotel that numbers ten rooms this year, each bearing the name of a style of music. For instance, who spends the night in the rock room will have ice-carved musical instruments instead of bedside tables.

Fifty English travellers have already booked rooms at the Ice Hotel at Balea Lake. Some of them will not only sleep, but they have meals in the hotel's restaurant at tables and chairs made of ice.

The Ice Hotel and the ice igloo and the Ice Church at Balea Lake will be inaugurated on 25 December, and their construction will begin in December when the frost is hard enough.
